GOLDEN CALLIGRAPHY
The written word has always held a place of deep reverence within Islamic visual culture. More than a means of communication, calligraphy became the most honoured vehicle for preserving and transmitting the divine message of God, and in doing so, it evolved into a profoundly sophisticated art form. From the earliest revelations, when sacred verses were first recorded on parchment, Arabic script emerged as a pre-eminent art unlike any other in the Islamic world , an artistic tradition that this forthcoming catalogue and exhibition seek to explore.
